LLRTA EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE PREPARES TO SELECT A CANDIDATE FOR ITS 2023 SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM!6/14/2023 Continue to check our LLRTA website for updated information.* The LLRTA's Teacher Education Scholarship supports aspiring teachers in Sangamon and Menard counties. In 2022, the Executive Board initiated a new approach, which aimed to provide long-term funding of the scholarship program. Long-Term Funding Initiative Levels Sustaining Level: Contribution up to $150 Loyalty Level: Contributions from $150 -$250 Memorial Level : Contributions from $250-$500 Eligibility questions to be considered by the applicant and Scholarship Committee 1. Is the applicant in the last year of a college program? 2. Has the applicant been accepted into a Teacher Education program? 3. If the applicant is not participating in a Teacher Education program, then what is the rationale for selecting the applicant? 4. Is the applicant a resident of Sangamon or Menard County? From 2023: Congratulations to Katie Milhiser, recipient of our 2023 $1,000 Teacher Education Scholarship! Katie attends Illinois College and plans to use the scholarship to pursue her goal of becoming a math teacher in middle or high school and eventually earn a Master's degree.LLRTA Teacher Education applications are due May 15, 2024!

The $1,000 LLRTA Teacher Education Scholarship is available to students who are permanent residents of Sangamon or Menard County, have a major in teacher education, and will enter their junior or senior year at the university/college in the fall semester of 2024.** Information about the scholarship is available at the following locations: University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Springfield, Illinois State University, Western Illinois University, Eastern Illinois University, Illinois College, and Lincoln Land Community College. Recipients for 2023 were selected. The Illinois Retired Teachers Association, IRTA Foundation annually awards six scholarships ($2,000) to each of the 6 IRTA areas of the state. The recipients are incoming juniors or seniors in college who are pursuing a degree in education.
Thanks to a very generous private donation from one of our IRTA members, Areas 4 and 6 will each award a second scholarship ($3000). Applications for these scholarships are available on the IRTA website under the Foundation tab (www.irtaonline.org), or by telephone (Susan Goetz: 1-800-728-4782). |
